Victorian School Work Throws Up Quandry

Our local lower school has ow been converted to a junior school – the main body of this little church school was built in the late 1870s and actually blessed in 1878.  The school then consisted of one house with a large reception room.  The toilet was outside in a little brick built shed on the side of the playground.   The school is now being carefully remodelled and enlarged to accommodate two more school year’ worth of students.  The old buildings out the back presented a nightmare scenario – asbestos everywhere.  The roof are asbestos panels and the partitions contain it too.   Very specialist removal and disposal has caused tremendous delay as the major controlling voice is the church. Lots of consultation throughout has been needed with the team handling the work.  Huge consultation fees have started coming in but it’s all necessary otherwise the school won’t get a certificate of worthiness.
