Asbestos Surveying
In January 2010 the HSE released updated guidance on surveying practices aiming to identify the presence of asbestos in a variety of buildings, premises or installations. The guide is called ‘Asbestos: The Survey Guide’ and its referenced as HSG 264. This guidance expands on and replaces MDHS 100 Surveying, sampling and assessment of asbestos containing materials.
The new guidance makes some significant requirements. Type 1 and 2 asbestos surveys have now been termed ‘Management Surveys’ and the Type 3 asbestos surveys are now termed ‘Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys’
Particular emphasis and importance has been placed on the planning of a survey and in addition, caveats and areas of no access should be avoided or reduced, so far as is reasonably practicable.
BLS Asbestos Ltd can carry out both types of asbestos survey, the ‘Management Survey’ is intended to enable the management of asbestos within premises from a perspective of occupational risk to health, whereas the ‘Refurbishment and Demolition Survey’ is required prior to any works which will disturb the fabric of the building. The survey will cover the whole building due for demolition or just specific areas of the building where refurbishment is to take place.
Our experienced surveyors can carry out these two types of survey as necessary to suit clients requirements. We have experience in carrying out all sizes of asbestos survey from very small residential properties to large complex commercial properties. All our surveyors are appropriately trained and hold the relevant P402 qualification.
