Method of Operation
Once an order is received a contracts manager will visit the site to sketch the work area and ascertain best working practices.
Back in the office they will then write up a bespoke method statement; once completed we will issue the client with a copy for their records and we will submit an ASB5 notification form to the relevant enforcing authority.
After the notification period has expired we are free to commence upon site. We will start by constructing airlocks and baglocks where necessary, we will then seal the enclosure to make it airtight. A smoke canister is released to check the integrity of the enclosure and any leaks are plugged and repaired.
Now we can start to remove the asbestos in strict accordance with The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006, Work with materials containing asbestos ACoP L143 and Asbestos: The licensed contractor's guide. Upon completion of the strip out either the Contracts Manager or Site Supervisor will give the work area a thorough visual inspection to ensure all traces of asbestos have been removed.
After our "in house" inspection providing everything is satisfactory we will then commission an independent UKAS accredited analytical company to conduct a 4-stage clearance which consists of:
1. Preliminary check of site conditions and job completeness
2. Thorough visual inspection
3. Clearance air monitoring inside the enclosure
4. Assessment of site for reoccupation
This is when certificates of reoccupation are handed out.
Now we can start to de-sheet and the final act is the room/building handover.
Waste disposal
Asbestos waste is bagged in UN approved red asbestos waste bags with an asbestos warning sign clearly visible and sealed with Hessian backed tickertape. Larger items should be wrapped in 1000 gauge polythene and sealed with tickertape with a red asbestos waste bag or printed label (with the same information as the bag) securely attached.
These are the left inside the enclosure until the end of the shift when the larger items are taken through the baglock (or airlock if there is insufficient room for both) and disposed of in an enclosed skip or lockable vehicle, the red waste bags are taken to the middle stage of the airlock and placed in a clear asbestos waste bag and sealed with tickertape before being transported to the skip or vehicle. |
