How Asbestos Needs Controlled Handling

There are no end of old factories and workhouses still dotted about all over the country.  They have been standing for centuries and for the most part, they are just an untidy blot on a local landscape if they’re not maintained properly.   There are problems however when certain materials are involved because when a developer wants to knock down the old place and build over with new, there are often times a stipulation in the building regulations that certain materials have to be handled by specialists and all sorts of complications arise.  Asbestos is one such material.  It’s made up of 6 fibrous minerals that cling together and are incredibly tough.  It can be classed as absolutely fireproof but the fibres cause cancer like illness.  The handling and disposal of asbestos has to be controlled under licence.
